Robin Thicke performed a medley of songs by artists including U2, Bob Marley and The Beatles while in court as the 'Blurred Lines' trial began.

Marvin Gaye's estate and Thicke have entered a legal battle following accusations that the latter ripped off the Gaye’s 'Got To Give It Up' while penning his 2013 hit ‘Blurred Lines’.

Thicke took to the stand yesterday as the first witness in the trial and is reported to have performed a number of songs in the court room - with the premise of proving that many songs share similar chords and melodies without being directly derived from one another.

The Hollywood Reporter states that Thicke sang parts of 'With Or Without You' by U2, The Beatles' 'Let It Be', Bob Marley's 'No Woman, No Cry' and 'Man In The Mirror' by Michael Jackson as part of his legal teams efforts to prove that ‘Blurred Lines’ does not improperly originate from Gaye’s 1977 hit song.

Thicke’s legal team, lead by attorney Howard King, called on his client to compare the line "I'm gonna take a good girl" from 'Blurred Lines' to "I used to go out to parties" from Gaye's song – by singing them in the court room. Their evidence, they claim, shows that 'Blurred Lines' uses only an E-major and an A-major chord, whereas ‘You Got To Give It Up’ consists of eight chords.

The trial is expected to continue for eight days and will include testimony from Thicke's ex-wife Paula Patton and Williams, TI (aka Clifford Harris Jr., who is a plaintiff).
