A man has been arrested by gardaí investigating a robbery in west Dublin, that was stumbled upon by Health Minister Leo Varadkar.

Two men, armed with what was described as a gun and machete, entered a shop in the Carpenterstown Shopping Centre on Tuesday.

They went into the shop at around 7.00pm and threatened staff and customers.

Cash was taken from the tills, and personal property was stolen taken from a number of customers during the raid.

Both men left the scene on foot.

During a search and arrest operation in Dublin this morning, a 21-year-old man was arrested by gardaí from Blanchardstown.

He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Blanchardstown garda station.

The investigation is ongoing.
