Rich list shows Ireland's top 300 worth 4% more than last year

The amount of wealth required to be included on the Sunday Independent Rich list has almost doubled in the the past 5 years.

The list compiles the top 300 wealthiest people and families who are based or born in Ireland.

The richest Irish citizens are thought to be worth a combined €87.7bn, an increase of 4% on the top 300's wealth last year.

The richest person hasn't changed since last year, with Dublin born Patsy Perin Dubash, who's married to the Irish Indian construction tycoon Pallonji Mistry, worth an estimated €14.9bn.

Other notables in the top 10 include the Weston family (€8.1bn), who own Selfridges and Brown Thomas; media mogul Denis O'Brien (€5.1bn); fellow financiers John Magnier (€2.2bn) and JP McManus (€1.85bn); and businessman Dermot Desmond (€1.56bn). 

Making the list requires a mere €30m, which has allowed Colin Farrell (€31m) and Louis Walsh (€32) to sneak on in places 298 and 296 respectively.
