Revenue has seized €14,000 in cash at Shannon Airport.
The seizure took place yesterday, when officers stopped and questioned a Chinese woman in her 20s following routine profiling.
She was boarding a flight to London Heathrow, where she was due to travel onwards to Hong Kong.
Revenue says officers seized the cash as a result of their suspicions that the money was "the proceeds of, or intended for use in, criminal activity".
The seized cash was in denominations of 50, 100, 200 and 500 euro notes.
A three month detention order was today granted at Ennis District Court to allow for further Revenue investigations.
