American Grammy award-winning rapper Coolio has failed to appear in court after being charged with possession of a gun.
The rapper was arrested after the weapon was allegedly found in his bag at Los Angeles Airport last month.
According to Los Angeles police, a stolen, loaded pistol was discovered in the rapper's backpack as his entourage was going through security to board a flight en route to a concert.
Reuters reports that prosecutors told the court the 53-year-old artist, whose legal name is Artis Leon Ivey, is banned from carrying a gun due to two previous felony convictions.
Coolio, best known for the 1996 hit Gangsta’s Paradise, was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle in 2001 and for possession of cocaine base in 2009.
His lawyer told the judge he was performing in St. Louis and couldn’t make it back in time to appear in court.
He could face up to three years in prison if convicted of this latest charge.
The case has been remanded until October 26th.
