President Michael D Higgins has issued a special video message on the significance of 2016 for Ireland.
The President says the centenary of the 1916 Rising offers us an opportunity to reflect on events of the past, so that we can build a future that honours the promise of equality and inclusiveness contained in the 1916 Proclamation.
He also praises those who have worked hard for peace and reconciliation.
He says that "more than anything, 2016 should be a year in which together we remember, reflect and reimagine".
You can watch the video message below, with an Irish language version available here.
The Ireland 2016 Centenary programme will feature events and activities throughout the next year, from special cultural projects to a wide range of community events.
Commemorations will also take place around the world, including the UK, US and Australia.
Centerpiece events, including a parade in Dublin city, will take place over Easter Weekend in March.
