Police in the North are appealing for information following a stabbing in Coleraine.

A man in his 40's was approached in the street by two males in the early hours of this morning, as he was checking under the bonnet of his car.

A PSNI spokesperson said one of the males demanded cash from the man, and struck him in the side when he refused. After a brief altercation, both attackers fled on foot in the direction of Millburn.

Afterwards, the man realised he had suffered a stab wound. He made his own way to hospital where he is receiving treatment.

His condition is not thought to be life threatening.

Police described the first alleged attacker as being in his 20s, of medium build with short dark hair. He was wearing tracksuit bottoms and a zip-up hooded top.

The second male is also believed to have been in his 20s and is described as being of heavy build with blue jeans and a red coloured football top.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Investigations are ongoing.
