The shooting of a man in Belfast has been described as a "cowardly act of violence".
The 21-year-old was shot in both legs in in a paramilitary-style attack.
It happened at at around 10.00pm Friday in the Ardmonagh Parade area.
He was taken to hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The Northern Ireland Secretary of State James Brokenshire said: "I am sickened by news of the punishment-style shooting in Belfast last night - a cowardly act of violence that has no place in our society."
While local councillor Tim Attwood told Q Radio News it is sad to see a continuation of violence in the area.
"Appalling that we start the new year with yet another so-called punishment attack.
"There had been a number of punishment attack in west Belfast in recent weeks.
"We'd hoped that 2017 might see an end to that - but that isn't the case".
