Four Palestinians are reported to have been killed and dozens of others injured by Israeli troops amid continuing protests over the US decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Reuters reports that two protesters - including one wheelchair-bound man - were shot dead as crowds gathered at the Gaza Strip border, some hurling rocks at Israeli soldiers.

According to Al Jazeera, meanwhile, two Palestinian men were killed after allegedly attempting to attack Israeli forces.

More than 150 other Palestinians are said to have been injured in Friday's clashes.

As well as prompting protests in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, President Trump's decision on Jerusalem has drawn widespread criticism internationally.

Leaders from around the world have warned it have serious consequences for the Middle East peace process.

Israel considers the whole of the city as its "eternal, undivided capital" - but East Jerusalem is considered illegally occupied under international law.

Israel captured the Old City in 1967 and annexed it - but that move was not recognised internationally.

Palestinians, meanwhile, view the Eastern part of the city as their own capital.
