The figure of 2 billion represents the number of monthly active users. Facebook defines a monthly active user has a person who has logged into Facebook via the website or app, or used Messenger within the past 30 days. This figure does not include those using Instagram or WhatsApp.

New stats published by the company show that more than 750 million new Facebook friendships are formed every day around the world, with more than 1 billion people using Facebook Groups every month.

Good adds up

Mike Nowak, Product Director and Guillermo Spiller, Product Manager at Facebook published a blog post in which they unveiled new features for users.

"To show our appreciation for the many ways people support one another on Facebook, we will share several personalised experiences over the coming days."

These include "Good Adds Up" videos and the ability to thank friends and family who post kind messages on your wall.
