Nurses and midwives say they are stepping up their opposition to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland's decision to impose a 50% increase in their registration fee.

By law, nurses and midwives have to be registered with the NMBI to practice.

The current fee is €100 - but this is going up to €150 in 2015. Trade unions INMO, PNA and SIPTU say comparable health professions have had their fees capped at €100 for the next three years.

In the latest phase of their campaign of opposition, members of the INMO have posted selfies and group photographs on social media platforms, highlighting the issue to their local representatives.
