It's been fourteen years since The X-Files were last opened on TV, and this month sees them return with a six-episode miniseries.

While the show premieres with a double episode in the States on January 24th, we won't have long to wait to catch up here.

RTE2 will be showing the first two episodes just two and three days later, with the opening episode "My Struggle" showing on Tuesday 26th at 9.55pm, and the second episode "Founder's Mutation" screening at the same time the following night, Wednesday 27th.

The final trailer for the new series was released over the weekend, which kicks off with a UFO crashing on Earth, and only gets bigger from there.

Bill Malone, the channel controller for RTE2, said: “[We are] delighted to be showing the new series of the phenomenon that is The X-Files. It’s been a long wait for fans of Mulder and Scully and the first episode on 26 January will be appointment viewing.”
