A new poll shows that support for Sinn Féin is at its highest level in over a year, with the party up by five points to 19% in the last month.
This puts the party seven points points behind Fianna Fáil, which is the most popular party on 26%, according to the latest Sunday Business Post/Red poll.
However its lead over Fine Gael - which is unchanged on 24 despite recent divisions over selecting a new leader - is just two points.
That's much more modest than two polls for other newspapers in the last fortnight - which put the lead at 11 and eight points respectively.
The results come at a time when Sinn Féin has been calling on Fianna Fáil to pull the plug on the government, including placing a motion of no confidence in the Coalition following its handling of the alleged smear campaign against Garda whistleblower Sgt Maurice McCabe by senior gardaí.
The final result of the vote was 57 to 52. Fianna Fáil abstained from voting.
The Red C poll for tomorrow's paper, has a margin of error of 3%, and all but two changes recorded in the poll are within that amount.
The only ones outside it are Sinn Féin, and Independents, who slide four points to 10%.
Today's poll has AAA/PBP on 6%, the Green Party and Labour tied on 4%, the Independent Alliance and the Social Democrats on 3% each, and Renua on 1%.
The poll of around 1,000 adults was taken by Red C Research between Monday and Thursday last week.
