A member of the ‘New Land League’ has said he will be making a formal complaint to gardai about Vincent Browne, after the TV3 presenter’s ‘assault on his person’ yesterday.

Mr John Martin told reporters today that he was 'physically and mentally hurt' by Mr Browne yesterday when the veteran reporter entered the grounds of the O’Donnell family’s former home at Gorse Hill. At the time Mr Martin was attempting to prevent reporters entry to the grounds.

"I have just informed Dun Laoghaire Garda station, which has jurisdiction for this area, that ... I will be making an official formal complaint against a one Mr Vincent Browne for the assault upon my person that took place here yesterday,” Mr Martin said, the Irish Independent reports.

"I will also be consulting with my own legal team and I will be instructing them to commence legal proceedings against one Mr Vincent Browne, his employer TV3 and its owners, on the law of tort," Mr Martin said.

"I was both physically and mentally injured and there will be other medical evidence and facts."

Browne, along with a number of other reporters, arrived at the Gorse Hill residence in Killiney yesterday. Browne entered the grounds despite a brief attempt by Mr Martin to stop him. Browne was then followed by a number of journalists, including a TV3 camera crew. Footage of the incident was published online in various outlets, including Newstalk, yesterday and then broadcast on Browne’s ‘Tonight with Vincent Browne’ programme on TV3 last night.

Another member of the Land League, Mr Jerry Beades, was present at Gorse Hill yesterday and appeared on Browne’s show last night. During the programme Browne became exasperated with Beades’ assertion that the Killiney mansion of the O’Donnell family was ‘bog standard’, eventually telling the New Land League member to “shut up” repeatedly.

You can watch the video of that exchange here.
