Scientists are warning that extreme weather conditions which we have seen over the last few years may become the new “climate normal”.

According to the Telegraph, frequent heat waves and other weather conditions may already be unavoidable.

The conditions may have an impact on development as it will have an affect on crop yields, water resources and the livelihoods of millions of people. This will also have an affect on the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people.

The report, entitled Turn Down the Heat: Confronting the New Climate Normal by the World Bank Group, it may already be too late to avoid extreme weather events.

Jim Yong Kim, president of the World Bank Group, said: “Today’s report confirms what scientists have been saying – past emissions have set an unavoidable course to warming over the next two decades, which will affect the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people the most.

“We’re already seeing record-breaking temperatures occurring more frequently, rainfall increasing in intensity in some places, and drought-prone regions like the Mediterranean becoming drier.”

He also called on world leaders to adopt measures to reduce the rate of climate change like becoming more energy efficient and adopting cleaner energy policies.
