US filmmaker Michael Moore is to showcase his new film in Dublin at a special IFTA Academy screening and discussion.

‘Where to Invade Next’ is written and directed by Moore, and is his first film in six years.

The piece is shot in the style of a travelogue.

It sees Moore spending time in countries such as Tunisia, Finland, Italy, France, and Portugal - where he experiences those countries' alternative methods of dealing with social and economic issues experienced in the United States.

IFTA has announced he will participate in a discussion after the screening in Dublin’s IFI on Monday June 13th.

Moore’s success has brought documentary filmmaking into mainstream cinema - starting with his 2002 film ‘Bowling For Columbine’, probing the culture of guns in America.

This won the Oscar for ‘Best Documentary’, as well as being a commercial hit, making US$58m (€51m) world-wide.

This was bested by his next documentary ‘Fahrenheit 9/11’, which explored America in the wake of the 9/11 attacks - and made over US$222m (€195m).

It also won the Palme D’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and is still the highest grossing documentary film of all time.

Moore has been named as one of the ‘100 Most Influential People’ in the world by Time magazine.

He has also written and co-written eight non-fiction books, mostly on similar subject matter to his documentaries.

His book ‘Stupid White Men...and Other Sorry Excuses for the State of the Nation!’ was highly critical of the US government, and spent 50 weeks on the New York Times Best Sellers List.

Tickets for the event can be obtained from the IFI.
