Mary Lou McDonald has hit out at a 'concerned citizen' who stopped her in the street on Friday to complain about Sinn Féin's tax policies.
The man has since been identified as Fergus Crawford, the CEO of the Irish branch of a Swiss investment firm Sarasin, which manages assets of €17.34bn worldwide.
During a strategy meeting for the party in Wynn's Hotel on Sunday, the deputy leader of Sinn Féin said that Crawford had "some brass neck" to make the remarks given his position.
McDonald added that "the bankers, developers, all of the crew who wrecked this place have now regrouped, and they are now sufficiently emboldened to challenge people like me on the streets of Dublin on the basis of, ironically, our ability to protect ordinary people.
"There's a big irony in that and I know it isn't lost on anyone. The man is of course entitled to his view".
