A Dublin man had been jailed for his part in a burglary on the former address of a doorman who had thrown a number of men out of a pub.

Garda Kevin Hinde told the court that Jason Kirwan (28) was linked to the break in by blood drops found on the stairs after four men had smashed the glass in a door to get in.

Kirwan of Elmdale Crescent, Ballyfermot, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to burglary at Buttercup Park, Darndale, Dublin on October 3, 2011.

Judge Martin Nolan said it appeared that the men were there to exact some type of vengeance and were looking for the doorman.

He imposed a sentence of three years.

Gda Hinde told prosecuting barrister Elva Duffy BL that earlier on that night a doorman had asked a number of people to leave a pub. These men had threatened the doorman saying they knew where he lived.

Later that night four men arrived at house in Darndale, which was a former residence of the doorman. They smashed their way into the house and stole military uniforms belonging to the house owner, Corporal Michael O’Shea.

Kirwan's 80 previous convictions include 72 road traffic offence, one robbery and a conviction for drug dealing.

Sarah Jane O’Callaghan BL, defending, said her client was a dedicated father of three who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and out of control on the night.

She said his father was a violent alcoholic who instilled in him from an early him to be a gangster and to take the wrong choices.

Judge Nolan said it was obvious the four burglars thought the doorman was living there and that they were looking for him.
