The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning (September 3rd) at Portobello Harbour, Dublin 8 when a 23-year-old man got into difficulty in the canal.
After being removed from the water, he was taken to St James's Hospital where he is said to be in a critical condition.
The man - who had travelled from Galway to attend the All Ireland Hurling Final - had been separated from friends when the incident happened.
