A man is said to be in critical condition after a serious assault in Derry city this morning.
The victim, who is in his 20s, was attacked shortly before 1am on Waterloo St.
He was rushed to hospital and a 22-year-old man was arrested a short time later.
The PSNI said the suspect has been helping police with their investigation.
Detective Constable Stephen Riddell said: “We are conducting enquiries and are requesting the public’s assistance to help determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
"Anyone with information that could assist the investigation should contact detectives at Strand Road Station on 101, quoting reference number 78 of 11/09/16.
