A man has gone on trial for the murder of a Dublin teenager who was killed seven years ago while in the care of the HSE.
Richard Dekker, who is from Dublin 15, is accused of aiding and abetting the killing of Daniel McAnaspie at Tolka Valley Park in Blanchardstown.
Brendan Grehan, who is prosecuting for the state, told the jury that Daniel McAnaspie’s care workers dropped him off to meet some friends in Finglas on Feb 25th 2010.
He said he did not show up for his lift home later that evening.
Mr Grehan said the court would hear evidence that he went drinking in Blanchardstown with several others - including the accused Richard Dekker and another man, Trevor Noone.
He said there was a dispute earlier that evening and that it will be alleged the men brought him down to an isolated area along the Tolka River in the early hours of Feb 26th 2010 for the purpose of giving him “a hiding.”
The 17-year-old’s remains were found in a deep drain on some land in Rathfeigh, Co. Meath almost three months later.
The jury heard that Mr Dekker was aware that Mr Noone had half a garden shears with him and it is the state’s case that he aided and abetted the killing and is guilty of murder - even though he says he never wielded the weapon.
Earlier today, Mr Noone pleaded not guilty to Mr McAnaspie’s murder, but guilty of manslaughter - a charge that was accepted by the DPP.
