A man is due to appear in court in connection with a serious assault in Roscommon last month.

The man aged in his 40s was detained on Wednesday, and is expected to appear before a special sitting of Roscommon District Court this evening.

Another man arrested on Tuesday as part of the same investigation was released without charge.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

A 20-year-old man suffered a serious assault in Roscommon town on August 30th.

He is continuing to recover from his injuries.

Investigating gardaí are continuing to appeal for information.
