A man is due before a Roscommon Court, in connection with the false imprisonment of another man in Strokestown on Tuesday.

Gardaí in Roscommon arrested 4 people yesterday following a planned operation, during which gardaí searched 2 houses.

On Tuesday, a man who'd gone to meet a woman he'd met on the internet was overcome, bundled into a car and robbed, sparking a garda investigation into that and an earlier incident.

After the arrests, a woman and 2 men - all in their late teens were taken to Roscommon Garda Station and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

A third man, in his early 20s, was arrested by gardaí yesterday afternoon at a house in Strokestown.

He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The woman and 2 of the men have since been released without charge.

One of the men in his late teens, is due to appear before Castlerea District Court today.

Hook-up gone wrong

Local radio station Shannonside reported earlier this week that the victim, a man in his late 20s had arranged to meet a woman he had contacted online at midnight, but when he made his way to the arranged meeting point, he was forced into the back of a car by at least 2 men.

He was held for a number of hours in a car, while a gang used his bank card to steal money from his account.

The victim, who is understood not to be from the local area was released hours later, and made his way to Longford garda station where he presented himself to officers.

All those arrested are from the local area.

Gardaí say they have also interviewed the suspects in relation to a similar incident that occurred in the Strokestown area on June 18th.
