The man's body has been removed to the city mortuary, while a post mortem will take place later.

Superintendent Gerard Donnelly from Coolock garda station is making an appeal on several fronts.

"Firstly, for anybody who may have witnessed the shooting at Moatview Avenue, for anybody who may have observed the black Audi A3 motorcar - prior to the shooting or subsequent to the shooting, particularly while it was en-route from the Coolock-Clonshaugh area over towards Finglas.

"I am also aware that the deceased person was in the company of a number of people, both male and female, at the time of the shooting.

"So I would ask those people to please make contact with us".
