A man has died following an incident on Lough Ree this afternoon.

It's understood he had been kayaking near Hudson Bay in County Roscommon when he got into difficulty.

The Coastguard helicopter and local RNLI attended the scene around noon and the man was rushed to Portiuncla Hospital.

The man was later pronounced dead this evening.
