A young man has died after falling from the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare.

Gardaí said the alarm was raised just after 3pm after someone was seen falling from the cliff edge.

The body of the man, aged in his 20s, was recovered from the water by the Coast Guard based at Doolin.

It is believed the man was from overseas and was studying in Ireland.

His body has been removed to the morgue at University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

A file will now be prepared for the coroner.

Gardaí are currently treating the death as a tragic accident.
