A man has died after being hit by a car in Co Meath last night.

It happened on the R162 Navan to Nobber road, shortly before 10:30pm.

The male pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene.

His body has been taken to Our Lady's Hospital Navan, and a post mortem examination is due to be carried out.

The driver of the car - a man in his 20s - was not injured.

The road where the crash happened remains closed this morning, with a forensic exam set to be carried out at the scene.
