Man dead, girl injured after Roscommon collision

Gardaí in Roscommon are investigating a fatal road traffic collision in which a man aged in his 50s died.

The incident involved a car and a bus on the R446 at Ballydangan at around 10.00am on Thursday morning.

The man was fatally injured when the car he was driving collied with the bus.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body removed to Roscommon Hospital.

An 11-year-old girl, who was the passenger in the car, received minor injuries.

She was taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

The driver of the bus and three passengers were also taken to Portiuncula Hospital with minor injuries.

A total of 12 passengers were on the bus.

This stretch of the R446 was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí in Roscommon are appealing for witnesses, or anyone travelling on the R446 from Ballinasloe to Athlone between 9.30am and 10.15am, to contact Roscommon garda station on 090-6638-300, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line at 1800-666-111 or any garda station.
