Gardaí investigating the stabbing of Dublin footballer Jonny Cooper have arrested a man (31).

Mr Cooper (24), who plays for Na Fianna, was stabbed multiple times in the early hours of Saturday September 20th.

It happened on Dorset Street in north inner-city Dublin.

He sustained serious injuries to his face and upper body in what gardaí say was a random, unprovoked attack.

CCTV footage of the assault was deemed too distressing to be shown on the RTÉ programme 'Crimecall' last week.

A suspect was arrested earlier today and is being questioned at Mountjoy garda station.

Meanwhile, gardaí have renewed their appeal for anyone who witnessed the assault to contact them.
