Gardaí arrested a man in his 30s this morning in connection with an on going investigation into the murder of Irene White in Dundalk, Co. Louth on the 6th April 2005.

The arrest took place in the Co. Monaghan area and the man is currently detained at Dundalk Garda station.

It followed a recent appeal from the Gardaí for information relating to the murder of 43 year-old Irene White, who was fatally stabbed in her home on the 6th April 2005.

Irene, a mother of three, was attacked on her return home to her house, known locally as "Ice House", beside Ice House Hill Park. Irene's body was discovered in the kitchen by her mother at 12.30pm. She had been stabbed a number of times.

Gardaí believe that a man entered the kitchen, fatally stabbed Irene and fled over the back wall into Ice House Hill Park. There are four possible exits the man could have taken from the park that day, and Gardaí appealed for anyone who was in the park that morning of April 6th to come forward if they had not already done so.

The investigation by the Gardaí continues.
