A man has been arrested following the murder of a father in a supermarket shopping centre in County Down over the weekend.

35-year-old James Colin Horner had his three-year-old son with him in the car when he was attacked by a lone gunman on Sunday.

It is believed Mr Horner moved to the area to avoid a loyalist paramilitary feud.

The PSNI has said a 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with the murder last night.

The arrest comes following a PSNI call for information on the movements of a red Ford Mondeo car, which was seen speeding away from the scene around 2.50pm just after Mr Horner was shot.

It is believed one of its occupants was wearing a dark hoodie type top, with possibly a dust mask covering his face.

This vehicle, which had fake number plates, was later found burnt out.

The PSNI believe the gunman and accomplice may have been picked up by another vehicle, after they disposed of the car.

PSNI Detective Superintendent Richard Campbell has called the attack a “hugely barbaric act” that will “undoubtedly live with this young boy for the rest of his life.”
