Gardaí have arrested a 31-year-old man following a carjacking in Dublin overnight.
It happened at around half past one this morning, in a shopping centre car park in Palmerstown.
A 58-year-old male taxi driver was threatened and assaulted at knife point before being forced from his car.
The car was then driven from the scene in the direction of the N4.
The taxi driver was taken to Ballyfermot Garda Station where he received medical treatment for his injuries.
During a follow-up operation a 31-year-old man was arrested when members of the Regional Support Unit intercepted the taxi at a filling station near Maynooth, Co Kildare, shortly before 8 o'clock this morning.
The man is being questioned at Lucan Garda Station where he can be held for up to 24 hours.
Gardaí say their investigation is ongoing.
