A 26-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of a 22-year-old mother in Cork.
Adam O’Keeffe, with an address at St Vincent’s Hostel, was charged with murdering Amy McCarthy at Sheares Street in Cork.
Her body was found in a vacant office block at the back of the Mercy University Hospital at around 7am on April 30th.
The Court heard today that Mr O’Keeffe made no reply to the murder charge when it was put to him after caution.
The Midleton native sat with his head bowed throughout the proceedings.
Mourners at Ms McCarthy’s funeral mass back in April were told by her sister, Hayley that “if love could have saved Amy, she would have lived forever” as so many people were so fond of her.
She said her sister “had a heart of gold” and spoke of how incredibly proud and happy she was when she had her son.
Judge Olann Kelleher remanded Mr O’Keeffe in custody to appear again at Cork District Court on December 13th and granted legal aid.
