While driving through Palmerstown, he claims his passenger stabbed him in the arm and grabbed him by the neck before demanding cash and stealing his cab.

A few hours later, Mark Lavelle was stopped in Maynooth when officers noticed a taxi being driven in a dangerous manner.

He denied taking the car and claimed he bought it from somebody who told him it was stolen.

The 31-year-old was previously refused bail but his lawyers are appealing that decision to the High Court this afternoon.
