Rescuers searching for a ferry passenger who went overboard say they have have found a body.

The woman passenger was reported missing in the Irish Sea by the crew of a ferry sailing from Wales to Rosslare.

The coastguard has tweeted that police in Wales have confirmed a body has been located in the Lawrenny area of Pembrokeshire.

She had been on board the Isle of Inishmore ferry and was last seen alive at 3.00am.

A coastguard statement said: "The body has not been formally identified at this time.

"Dyfed Powys Police officers are working closely with specialist recovery teams from HM Coastguard and the ambulance service to recover the female body.

"Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time. Further information will be released when available from Dyfed Powys Police."

Two Irish Coastguard helicopters and a UK Coastguard helicopter searched the area, together with lifeboats and a ship from the Port Authority.
