Literary journalist Eileen Battersby dies following a car crash

Former Irish Times Literary Correspondent Eileen Battersby has died in a car crash in Co. Meath.

A 61 year old was seriously injured in a crash at Sheephouse, on the Oldbridge to Donore Road, 4 kilometres outside Drogheda on Saturday.

She was pronounced dead at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda last night.

Ms Battersby began her journalism career with the Sunday Tribune, before moving to The Irish Times in 1988 where she enjoyed a 30 year career.

Eileen Battersby went on to win four National Arts Journalist of the Year awards, while she also won the Critic of the Year accolade and published several books.

Colleagues and friends from the literary and media worlds have been paying tribute to her life and work.
