The Labour Party is vowing to hold a referendum on abortion if it is re-elected to Government.
It comes after Friday's huge vote in favour of same-sex marriage. The party had pledged in 2011 that there would be a marriage referendum.
Labour says it wants to see a vote on whether or not to repeal the 8th Amendment, which gives equal rights in the Constitution to the mother and her unborn child.
The Minister for Equality Aodhán Ó Ríordáin spoke to Newstalk Breakfast this morning about the issue.
He says it is a very difficult, emotional and divisive issue, and there's "a long conversation to be had... and the preparatory work for that is just beginning."
However he adds that, "when we go to the people in the next election, we will be saying to the Irish people 'you elect a Labour government, there will be a Labour in government - because no one party will be in government on their own - and Labour will have a referendum on the Eighth Amendment'. How that campaign will be fought will be very, very different to the one we just fought and won".
