The Tánaiste says the Labour Party is on a high alert for a General Election.

Joan Burton says she met with the Labour Party's National Executive and General Council over the weekend.

A Behaviour and Attitudes poll in yesterday's Sunday Times, indicated the highest level of support for the government parties since the early part of last year, at 39%.

Labour's support remains in the single-figures, rising one point to 8%, but if voter support continues to grow for Government parties, the current coalition could potentially return to form a new government.

Although Tanaiste Joan Burton wouldn't be drawn on when she thought the general election would be held, she did reveal that the Labour Party is already planning its manifesto:
