Ivanka Trump will be given her own White House office, US media has reported.

Although she has not been given an official role or title in the administration, Donald Trump's daughter has maintained a high profile beside her father since their move to Washington.

On Friday, photographs showed Ivanka sitting beside German Chancellor Angela Merkel during a roundtable discussion on vocational training.

Despite having no formal role, US media reports that Mrs Trump - who runs her own fashion brand - is moving into a West Wing office.

She is also said to be in the process of gaining security clearance, which would allow her to access classified information.

In a statement to Politico, Ivanka Trump said: "I will continue to offer my father my candid advice and counsel, as I have for my entire life.

“While there is no modern precedent for an adult child of the president, I will voluntarily follow all of the ethics rules placed on government employees."

Ivanka's husband Jared Kushner serves as a senior advisor to President Trump.

While there are anti-nepotism rules in place in Washington, in practice presidents appear to have freedom when making family appointments.

In a recent legal opinion, deputy assistant attorney general Daniel Koffsky wrote: "We believe that the President’s special hiring authority [...] permits him to make appointments to the White House Office that the anti-nepotism statute might otherwise forbid."
