Ireland's unemployment rate dropped below 8% in September, hitting 7.9%, down from 8.2% in August and 9.1% one year ago.
According to the CSO there were 172,900 in search of work last month.

It marks a decline of 24,000 in the number of people unemployed compared to September 2015.
The seasonally adjusted number of males unemployed in September 2016 was 109,400. This is a decrease of 3,500 when compared to the August 2016 figure of 112,900.
In September 2016 the seasonally adjusted number of females unemployed was 63,500, a decrease of 3,800 when compared to August 2016.
The youth unemployment rate (people aged between 15 and 24 years) 15.9% in September 2016, a decrease from 17.0% in August 2016.
