Ireland's computers targeted by spy bug

Ireland's computers have reportedly been targeted by a spy bug.

The tech firm Symantec, says we are among several countries under surveillance by software known as Regin, or Backdoor.

The bug, which is extremely hard to detect, was reportedly developed by an unknown 'nation state' and has been spying on governments, businesses and private individuals around the world.

Other countries that have been targeted include Russia and Saudi Arabia.

Symantec, which detected the bug, has a base at Blanchardstown in Dublin - Local Fianna Fáil Councillor David Mc Guinness says we need to find out exactly what we're dealing with:

The Data Protection Commissioner is being called on to launch an inquiry amid reports of a spy bug targeting Irish computers.
