It's hot out there - and it's going to stay that way for the next few days.

A yellow weather warning from Met Éireann for high temperatures has been in place - as people are being reminded to take care in the sun.

But while some of us may be sweltering, others are cashing in on the good weather.

It is estimated that 250,000 ice-creams will be sold every day during the current heatwave: that equates to three every second.

Ice-cream maker HB says its top scorers are likely to be Cornettos - which typically sell 30,000 across the country on a hot day.

And next up are Icebergers, which can sell approximately 21,000 units per day during summer.

Nigel Thomson is marketing manager for HB Ice Cream Ireland.

"With the heat taking hold, we've seen a huge increase in ice cream sales over the last week and with the help of our retailers and distributors, we're ensuring that freezers around the country are stocked and ready to help consumers beat the heat," he said.
