Investigations are underway following a collision between a passenger train and a postal van in Co. Mayo this morning.

The small commuter train struck a van at an unmanned level crossing in Ballyvary.

The postman was taken to Mayo General Hospital where he is said to be a stable condition.

There were six passengers and the driver on board the train at the time. However none of them were injured.

In a statement, Iarnrod Eireann says it will investigate the incident, while the Railway Safety Commission and the Rail Accident Investigation Unit have also been informed.
