Investigation underway after Irishman stabbed to death in England

A murder investigation is underway after an Irishman was stabbed to death in Wolverhampton, England during the week.

The man has been named locally as 21-year-old John Joyce from Ennis in County Clare.

In a statement, West Midlands Police said officers were called to reports of a disorder near Bilston High Street in the city at around 11:30pm on Thursday night.

A man was found with serious injuries and was tended to by emergency services – however he died at the scene.

Police said two other men were taken to hospital with injuries - but are not in a serious condition.

A 46-year-old man found near to the location has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

West Midlands Police Detective Inspector Justin Spanner said a murder investigation has been launched and called for anyone with any information regarding the stabbing to contact police.

Wolverhampton South East MP Pat McFadden told the local Express and Star newspaper that the “truly horrific murder” had shocked the local community.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of the incident and is providing consular assistance to Mr Joyce’s family.
