An investigation is continuing in Donegal after an unmarked Garda car was rammed early yesterday morning.

Two officers on routine patrol in Carrigart were hurt when their vehicle was hit several times by a dark Volkswagen.

Gardaí are now asking the public to help find the man responsible.

"He made good his escape in a black Volkswagen Passat - we are giving out the partial Reg 02-MH," he said.

"Now that car will have damage on it.

"I have no doubt that this gentleman that is involved in this has been boasting about it - that is the nature of the beast we are dealing with I would suggest.

"There are people that know about this.

"I would ask those people to come forward and tell the Gardaí; give them as much information as they can."

He said there is "no doubt whatsoever" that the driver was aware the unmarked car was a Garda vehicle.

The garda officers were not seriously injured.

"These were two gardaí out doing their duty, patrolling the local community," he said.

"Doing their best to prevent and detect crime and I have no doubt that by their action on the night. they prevented some crime from occurring - due to the nature of the driving."

Gardaí are calling on anyone who has any information on the incident to contact them at Milford Garda Station on 074 9153060.
