The Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan says the force will co-operate fully with an inquiry into allegations of bullying and intimidation of garda whistleblowers.

Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald says former High Court judge Justice Iarlaith O'Neill will have six weeks to carry out the review and report back to her.

Commissioner O'Sullivan says that anyone who brings forward concerns or issues will be taken seriously.

Two senior officers have claimed they were involved in the smearing of a whistleblower.

The allegations were made under protected disclosures legislation.

Ms O'Sullivan welcomed the review yesterday, saying: "An Garda Síochána will co-operate fully with this review process".

"An Garda Síochána re-iterates its support for employees who make protected disclosures and that anyone who brings forward any concerns or issues will be taken seriously and the matters examined."
