The seizure was part of a planned multi-agency operation - involving gardaí, Customs officers, Dublin City Council Trading Licence Inspectors, as well as representatives from Manchester United and Adidas.

17 out of 21 vendors inspected in the Dublin 4 area were found to be selling counterfeit goods.

Gardai have confirmed similar multi-agency operations will take place throughout the country.

Detective Superintendent George Kyne explained: "The ongoing cooperation between various elements of law enforcement will continue, the objective being to stop counterfeit and sub standard products affecting the trade of genuine branded products.

"We will also continue to work with industry to ensure their intellectual property rights are protected in this regard."
