We are being encouraged to keep up our good recycling habits this holiday season, with 30% more waste produced by households over the Christmas period.

Irish homes will create about 25,000 tonnes of recyclable material over the Christmas period.

The increased volumes of food stuffs and wrapping from presents contribute to the seasonal rise in the amount of recyclable waste.

That equates to paper from a forest 200 times the size of Croke Park, and enough aluminium cans to stretch from New York to Dublin.

Panda Recycling spokesperson Paul O'Doherty is urging customers to make sure all their recycling is separated properly:
