The incident involved a beach buggy and a black Toyota Hilux.

Two girls, aged 12 and 14, were travelling on the buggy when they were involved in the collision.

PSNI say the 12-year-old girl, who was a passenger on the buggy, died as a result of her injuries.

The 14-year-old girl sustained a broken leg and remains in hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured as a result of the collision.

The 12-year-old girl's former school said it was "heartbroken" to learn of her sudden death.

St Patrick's Primary and Nursery School in Mayobridge said she was "such a special girl".

"We have memories of her kindness and her willingness to contribute to the life of the school through her musical ability, her sporting talents, her desire to do her best at all times and her beautiful smile. We offer our heartfelt condolences to her loving family."
