Despite being one of the most critically acclaimed action movies ever made, writer/director/creator of the series George Miller has stated that Mad Max: Fury Road will be his last time directing an entry in the franchise.

In an interview with New York Page Six Magazine, 70-year-old Miller said: “I’ve shot in Australia in a field of wildflowers and flat red earth when it rained heavily forever. We had to wait 18 months and every return to the U.S. was 27 hours. Those Mad Maxes take forever. I won’t do those anymore.”

Despite Miller's IMDb page stating that he is currently in pre-production on Mad Max: The Wasteland, it does appear he's done with these movies, at least in terms of directing them.

Fury Road began production in 1997, when a series of events from financial backers going bankrupt, to massive flooding on sets, to 9/11 all pushed the movie back to 2012 when the movie sat in post-production hell for a number of years before finally being released last summer.

In that fifteen year gap, Miller managed to direct Babe: Pig In The City and two Happy Feet movies.

Meanwhile, review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes declared that Mad Max: Fury Road was the best-reviewed movie of 2015, with a 97% score average based on 333 reviews.
